Am I a Foodie?

When I saw the picture for the following bread recipe I thought "Oh, that would be fun to make some day". I have been doing that for years. When I say years I am not even kidding. I have been tabbing, dog-earing, and ripping out recipes for ages. I get a new cookbook and pour over the pages like my sister reads literary works. In the beginning I was too afraid to try. I guess I still am to some degree, I just hate to have a recipe not turn out, it's such a waste of ingredients. But then I got married and my husband became my number one fan! He pumped my confidence like crazy. He encouraged me and told me not to be afraid to try. He said "If it doesn't work out, we'll just go to Apollo." (We lived dangerously close to those yummy fries when we were in our first apartment.)
Later came cable TV and the Food Network. I L.O.V.E Food Network. I have learned so much from watching TV! How funny is that! And most recently I have become a blog-hopping fool. I think my family is so sick of hearing me say "I saw such and such on this blog I read...". Sorry family. Will you still love me? Of course you will!! Wanna know why? We have all been reaping the benefits of my reading, remember those unbelievable chocolate cupcakes with the peanut butter cream cheese frosting!! Oh yeah you do! You love me!! I'm drooling now, I need to make those again and soon.
Whew...lost my train of thought for a minute there. To answer the question "Am I a Foodie?" I had to visit good ol' wikipedia for the definition. It says in part: foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news. Well folks, I guess I am a foodie. I DO love to consume it, study it,and prepare it.
So to all my readers(all four of you)I say "Don't be afraid to try!" Don't be afraid to try something that sounds a little weird, or has an ingredient you haven't used much or ever used for that matter. I love cooking! And you might too!

For something different to try, try this bread. It has an amazing light flavor. It kind of surprises you. I ripped this recipe out of a mag so I'm not sure where it originally comes from.

Buttermilk-Lime Bread
1 3/4 c flour
3/4 c sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 c buttermilk
1/4 c vegetable oil
2 tsp grated lime zest
3 T lime juice
1 T sugar

Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom and sides of a loaf pan with cooking spray; coat with flour.

In a medium bowl mix flour, 3/4 c sugar, the baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In another medium bowl stir egg, buttermilk, oil, lime zest, and 1 T of the lime juice with a spoon until well blended. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and stir until just moistened. (some lumps will remain) Spread in pan.

Bake 50 - 60 minutes or until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Meanwhile in a small bowl, mix the remaining 2 T lime juice and 1 T sugar.

Brush lime juice mixture over top of warm bread. Cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes; remove bread from pan to wire rack. Cool completely, about an hour. Store tightly sealed. Best when served the next day.

(P.S. We couldn't wait till the next day, the hubs and I snuck a bite before bed, it was great the same day too)
