Fishing at Willard

Much to my Father-in-laws dismay our fishing season is actually pretty short. As soon as the ice melts and the lakes are clear, he is itching to fish. But this is short lived because me and the hubs (especially the hubs) love to start scouting for big bucks. As soon as the mountains warm up enough to camp we are there, loving every minute. This doesn't leave many weekends to fish. But the times we do get on the boat are priceless. My kids love it. Gpa and Gma love it. And I love them for being so patient with my children in such a small space.

One such lucky weekend we hit Willard hoping to catch the elusive wiper. I call it that because it seems we can only ever get one or two in the boat. Then nuthin'. It just shuts off. This trip we caught a storm, complete with huge raindrops and a beautiful rainbow.

The only fish we ended up catching were catfish. I had no idea you could hook em and reel em in like that. I had always heard catfishing described as fishing in the dark with chicken livers and shrimp. My kids were also surprised to see that fish in the boat. They are so funny looking with their whiskers. They also make this funny grunting/glubbing sound. I know, crazy!! Who knew fish could talk?!

And look at my cute kids. Can you tell they are just stoked to be there?!

Grandma and Grandpa have fun too!! See!!
(she won't be happy with me posting that pic but it's a memory, it had to be there)

We didn't end up catching many fish but that's okay. It was a fun night and as always many fun memories made.

  2. OH boy I haven't been fishing for so long! That sure looked like a swell time. How big was your catfish? I love watching the show "river monsters" where they are consistently looking for giant catfish (among others), and oh boy those things can grow to be FRIGGIN huge!!! anywho.......

  3. I don't have nearly as clever a comment as my hubs but I wanted to say that I'm so glad you had such a good time! I think I'd be trying not to up-chuck overboard the whole time instead of being impressed with talking fish... so I'm glad it's you and not me!
