Ice Fishing at Fish Lake

Well again J had to talk me into going and again we had the BEST! time. When we left at 6:00 a.m. the weather did not look good. I asked more than once if we had the ice shack with us because I was mentally preparing myself for a long day in a two foot space. But the closer we got to the ice the better the weather got. Once we were out there it was absolutely beautiful. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Sunshine and blue skies! People never believe me when I tell them we get "hot" on the ice...but we do...we start shedding layers.

And the ice! It was so thick. I've never seen ice that thick, the gas powered auger really had to work hard and bury the blade to get through. It must have been 18 inches deep. I've seen amazing ice at Fish Lake. The pic at the top of my blog in the header is of the kids laying in one of our sleds on the ice last year. That day there wasn't a speck of snow on the ice. The blue streaky-speckled background you see is the ice. We shuffled out to drill our hole like we were on an ice-skating rink. The kids worked hard that day keeping their footing. And it was extra work for me to drag them back in because there was nothing for my boots to grip. Amazing! I'm telling ya, I've never seen anything like it in all my ice fishing years.

Back to this past weekend, the fish were amazing! Tons of perch. They were tiny little buggers but it was one right after the other. I'm not kidding when I say that J would put a worm on the hook, drop it to the bottom, reel up twice and then set it on his bucket. Two seconds later the pole would start to bounce with little nibbles from the little fish. I love this kind of fishing! I would rather catch a million little fish than sit and wait all-flippin day for four big ones. We did catch some larger trout during the day too. Grandma C caught one that I swear was purple. It was really pretty.

A big part of ice fishing for me is the munchie food. For some reason I get in my camp chair and I wanna munch something. I had the usual cheese and crackers, stuff for PB&J, oranges and cheetos. But this time I also took Phineas and Ferb fruit snacks and pudding. I got the "You are the best Mom!" declaration. Ah, celebrate the small victories!!

We also took the snow mobile this trip. The kids love that thing. You can hear them squealing from a million yards away when J makes fun turns or goes fast. J also pulled in gear for a bunch of people out on the ice and the kids love taking turns helping him with that. They can't pass up a free ride.

And I've decided I love the pictures on everyone's blogs so I'm gonna add more to my posts (if I have them). Plus I learned you can print your posts off into a scrapbook so that might be fun to have someday.

Here are some pic's from the super fun, fantastic weather, million tiny fish, wonderful day!

How do you print your blog to scrap later? I so want to do that and have thought it would print off all screwy?
